Search Engines
REMEMBER
Anyone can publish anything on the Internet. A good
way to evaluate information that you find on the Internet is
to compare it to other information you have found on the same
topic.
NARROW RESULTS
When using a search engine try these techniques to narrow the
number of results.
- Use quotation marks: putting a phrase in quotation marks
returns search results for the exact words in the quotation.
For example: “Blue Moon” will only return
results with the word Blue Moon in the title of the website.
- Use Boolean Operators: Boolean Operators are AND, OR & NOT.
These words narrow or increase search results by adding or
subtracting words from your results. For example:
- Information about cats. Use cats OR felines
to get more results.
- Information on dyslexia in adults. Use dyslexia AND adults
to narrow results.
- Information on radiation, but not nuclear radiation. Use
radiation NOT nuclear to narrow results
