ALGEBRA II COURSE OUTLINE Honors
MRS. GODEK
Goals of the course:
· Students will become proficient with mathematical skills needed to pass their cumulative department final exam and the NYS Algebra II and Trigonometry Regents.
Grading:
Quarterly grade: 100% total points of Exams, Quizzes and Homework
All Exams will be announced and will be cumulative. Quizzes may be announced.
You will have a quiz almost every day in this class.
Homework Grade:
o Homework will be a 100 point test. It will be assigned daily but not posted online. Missing class is not a valid excuse for missing homework.
o The following are examples, but not limited to point deductions for HW:
(-5) missing homework (-3) incomplete homework (NO WORK SHOWN)
(-5) wrong assignment completed
**If you need help with homework, make sure you come for extra help!
**Homework will not be posted online. It is your responsibility to get the assignment before leaving class.
Learning Packets: You will be required to complete 3 learning packets for each of the breaks we have in school. The curriculum is jam packed with topics. To ensure we finish the curriculum, it is necessary to complete these packets at home. Each packet will be given out about 2-3 weeks before each school break. You may ask questions in extra help. These packets will be graded as a quiz.
Final Grade: 20% of your final grade is the final exam. The other 80% is determined by your 4 quarter grades (20% each quarter). The regents will not be counted towards your final grade.
**Please note for course selection next year, the PSAT grade will count in determining Calculus Honors from A.P Calculus, as well as your first two quarter grades.
Equipment:
1. 5 Subject notebook (with pocket folders) used only for math
2. Workbook: AMSCO Algebra II and Trigonometry Preparing for the regents examination to be purchased by student. (will purchase it from our book store on West bottom)
3. TI – 84 Plus Calculator
4. Graph Paper
Class Policies:
· All students are expected to be ready to work when the class bell rings. That means being in your seat with the appropriate materials (pen/pencil, notebook, etc.) on your desk. Lateness will not be tolerated and will result in points being deducted from your HW grade.
· Dress Code: It is school policy that all students be in dress code. (See agenda book for details). Any student out of dress code will receive a dress code violation (detention). If a dress code violation must be given to a student, the student will politely accept the violation and say “Thank You.” After all, it is you that is out of dress code, not the teacher.
· The bell does not dismiss you! I dismiss you!
· Missed work and notes are your responsibility. Contact another student to find out what you missed. You will be required to take the exams and quizzes on the material you may have missed.
· No food or drink is permitted in the classroom. You will have to throw these out.
· All other rules of the school will be enforced including but not limited to: dress code, use of electronic devices such as i-pods and cell phones, proper language and behavior.
Make-up Policy:
Classwork and Homework: Missed work and notes are your responsibility. Contact another student to find out what you missed. You will be required to take the exams and quizzes on the material you may have missed.
Tests and Quizzes: Any missed tests or quizzes must be made up before school (E103) or during a free period. (NOT DURING CLASS TIME) See me as soon as you return to school to schedule a makeup. You will only have 1 school cycle to make-up your test or quiz. Failure to do so will result in a score of a ZERO on the test or quiz.
**Failure to show up for a scheduled make-up exam will result in a ZERO—NO EXCUSES!!!!!!
If you are going to be absent for an extended period of time, it is your responsibility to see me prior to your absence to get any work you will miss.

Calculator Policy:
· All students are required to own a graphing calculator. Students are expected to come prepared for each class, test or quiz. That includes bringing a pen/ pencil and calculator.
· THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO BORROWING OF CALCULATORS DURING CLASS, A QUIZ OR AN EXAM. If you forgot your calculator you will be sent to your locker to get it (and you will lose that time on the exam). If it is not in your locker, you are out of luck.
· “Dead batteries” is not a valid excuse. When your batteries are going dead the calculator displays a warning message. Replace the batteries.
Cell Phone Policy:
Cell phones are not permitted in class at any time. It is your responsibility to turn the phone off or on silent (not vibrate) before entering my classroom. Violation of this will result in detention. If the phone was out during a quiz or exam. an honor code violation and a grade of zero will be given. This policy may be added to within the first quarter. An additional sheet will be given at that time.
Extra Help: Monday – Thursday E 103 7:30am – 8:25am

Behavior:
· I expect each student to respect all the other students in the class. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a classroom environment conducive to learning.
· Distractions can hinder other students’ performance in class. Therefore, talking, calling out, nor any other misbehavior will not be tolerated.
· Misbehavior of any kind will result in point deductions or detentions.
Contacting the teacher:
· Students: I am available through e-mail via the Prep website or through sgodek@sfponline.org.
o My e-mail will be checked throughout the school day and possibly once after school hours. This means that if you e-mail me at 11:00pm the night before school, I will not receive that e-mail until the next school day.
· Parents:
o The best way to contact me is via email. You can reach me at sgodek@sfponline.org.
o If that is inconvenient, you can contact via phone in the Math Department office at (718) 423 – 8810, ext – 228.
Parent/Student Portal:
· Parent/Student portal will be updated frequently.
· With parents and students having access to the grades in this class on a daily basis, it is your responsibility to monitor your grades.
